Qui sommes-nous ?
Négociant et affineur de métaux précieux depuis plus de 20 ans, j’ai créé en 1992 S&P Trading, société de négoce international, et Aurfina, société d’affinage (www.aurfina.com). Majoritairement active en Amérique Latine, S&P Trading a proposé, dès son origine, une assistance technique, logistique et financière à la filière des petits et moyens producteurs locaux contre l’achat de leur production aurifère.
Dès 2004, j’ai commencé à réfléchir sur la manière d’adapter et de promouvoir le modèle économique du Commerce Équitable au marché de l’Or, afin d’accroître les revenus et les conditions de vie de ces petites exploitations minières artisanales.
Élaboration des premiers standards
sur l’Or Équitable
Dans ce cadre, j’ai rejoint en 2006 le Conseil d’administration et le comité technique de ARM (Alliance for Responsible Mining) qui élabore les premiers standards de l’Or Équitable, étant notamment spécifiquement chargé des problématiques de commercialisation, de logistique et d’affinage, avant d’intégrer le Comité exécutif de l’association en mars 2008. ARM collabore depuis 2007 avec FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International) afin de donner naissance au premier label indépendant d’Or Équitable, dont les standards et le label ont été créés en mars 2010.
Parallèlement, en 2005-2006, j’ai assisté en tant qu’expert de la filière de l’Or Artisanal, l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour le Développement Industriel (UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization) dans le cadre de la mise en œuvre d’un programme de réduction des émissions de mercure, baptisé Global Mercury Project. L’objectif de cette étude était notamment de montrer comment l’adoption du modèle du Commerce Équitable à travers l’amélioration des revenus de l’artisanat aurifère pouvait contribuer à la réduction substantielle des émissions de mercure dans l’environnement (lien vers cette étude).
De plus, j’ai collaboré entre 2006 et 2008 avec une société d’extraction aurifère basée en Guyane Française où j’étais en charge des finances et de la commercialisation de l’or, ce qui m’a permis d’approfondir les particularités du secteur aurifère guyanais.
Enfin, S&P Trading a récemment lancé un site internet grand public de recyclage de bijoux en fin de vie afin, d’une part, de pouvoir compenser la chute de l’affinage des matières issues de l’industrie bijoutière nationale et, d’autre part, d'être en mesure de pérenniser notre approvisionnement de métaux précieux recyclés pour lesquels la demande est de plus en plus soutenue (Gold by Gold).

À travers ces différentes activités, j’ai ainsi pu initier, au cours des dernières années, plusieurs routes commerciales d’Or artisanal, 100% traçable, depuis différents pays sud-américains (Bolivie, Colombie, Pérou, Équateur) à destination des marchés européen et nord-américain.”
